Thank you all for signing! So many signatures in so little time!! I'm so proud of our support system here at BSU! PLEASE feel free to share this petition in your local groups and with your friends, family, and peers!

Here is some data about the income BSU makes from parking passes alone!

  • If we only account for residential students, assuming that every residential student has a parking pass, they would be making $675,000 a year off of residential students alone
  • According to BSU's page, commuters make up 70% of all BSU students and according to USNews report on BSU life, fall 2020 there was a total undergraduate enrollment of 9,028, which would mean assuming that all commuters (I know it was 2020 so there were like none but that's the most recent data I could find for how many people would be there now) had a parking pass, they would be making approximately $1,579,750 off of commuters.
  • There was a bigger total undergrad enrollment in the 2011 report which is the first thing that shows up when you search for "how many students at bridgewater state university" on google, which would have been 11,294, which would mean off of the previous assumptions, they made approximately $1,976,450 in just 2011 from commuters alone.

This is only approximations of what BSU makes off of just parking passes, not including whatever income from YOUR taxes (which oft goes into a wealthy institution businessperson's pocket, not into improving our campus society or paying educators...), tuition, and fees. With that kind of money, not only could parking be improved, such as lot expansions or closer garages to academic buildings, opening half-empty staff lots to commuters and changing parking designations to make it easier for commuters to get to class and residents get to their living space, but a majority of complaints about allergen concerns in dining halls, mold problems (that may have already been fixed but it took a lot of fighting and time to do so), and so much more.

Thank you guys so much for listening and joining the fight to change these policies! Make sure to share in your groups, with family, and friends. Let's make a change!
