Brianne was informed that high-dose chemotherapy was the “next step” towards returning to outpatient treatment. She was unaware of her other options and placed complete trust in her doctors. There were never any discussions about alternative treatments; their opinions were the sole basis for their decisions. Doctors’ private notes must align with their statements to patients. We must eliminate the practice of withholding the truth and infringing upon patients’ right to make informed choices.
