We are opposed to the Provincial Government's proposed removal of PowerSmart from Manitoba Hydro, and how this will affect energy savings programs and electricity rates.

PowerSmart is an important program housed in Manitoba Hydro that helps Manitobans achieve energy efficiency targets and savings.

The Progressive Conservatives' Bill 19 (Efficiency Manitoba Act) seeks to carve out PowerSmart from Manitoba Hydro and form a new Crown Corporation to manage energy efficiency programs.

It makes no sense to divorce our public energy efficiency program from our public hydro, both of which are important services to Manitobans.

We believe Manitoba Hyrdo has done a good job of providing energy efficiency services to Manitobans and should continue providing these public services.

Stop the carving out of PowerSmart, and keep it in Manitoba Hydro!

*On May 11, the Legislative Committee that discussed Bill 19 was filibustered by Steven Fletcher, PC MLA for Assiniboia and by the NDP who all saw that this Bill was flawed and unnecessary. We still have time to STOP Bill 19!
