Reinstate the Driving Test in Georgia
Reinstate the Driving Test in Georgia

This petition is being submitted in hopes that Governor Kemp will reverse his decision to allow individuals to obtain their driver's license without taking the driver's test. We understand that this is supposed to be temporary, but the ramifications from even a few weeks of unskilled drivers getting their license can be catastrophic.
I have been a driving instructor for 4 years now. The driving school I work for services Henry, Butts, Clayton, Rockdale, Jasper, and Spalding counties. We have seen some great drivers that have responsible parents, but unfortunately we have seen more of the opposite. There are so many parents now that do not see the need to let their children drive the full 40 hours before getting their license, and are surprised when their kids fail the test. These students can now get their license.
We have also had a large number of adult students. Some learn and pass, while others can't seem to get the hang of it, and fail. Those individuals can now get their license.
We cannot trust parents' judgement on whether or not their child should get their license. We cannot trust an unlicensed adult, who is looking for employment but needs a license to do it, yet doesn't know how to drive. The driving test may be imperfect, but at least there is something to catch the completely inept drivers that have no training.
These are desperate and confusing times. Let's not add to the confusion by allowing just anyone to obtain their license and drive on the road with us or our children. The leading cause of death of teenagers is automobile accidents. This executive order will make it worse. We are supposed to be social distancing and sheltering in place. Why is it considered essential to distribute driver's licenses?
Please, sign this petition, and hopefully we can convince Governor Kemp to see the error in this order, and rectify it to keep us all safe on our roads.
