Support Environmentally Friendly & Decentralised Cryptocurrencies
The Issue
Bitcoin has been once again in news for the past few months, if you somehow missed its price skyrocketing to 41,000 USD you might have heard the news when Elon Musk changed his Twitter bio to #bitcoin.
Started in 2009 Bitcoin whitepaper was titled: "A Peer to Peer Electronic Cash System"
The merits of a decentralized currency have been widely appreciated. This isn't just an experiment anymore but an economic evolution.
However, its consensus relies on a mechanism called mining for security and validation.
Today Bitcoin's mining activity uses more energy than the entire country of New zealand
In retrospect, ONE Bitcoin transaction uses the same amount of power as driving over 3000 miles in a Tesla Model 3 car.
This is unacceptable.
Especially for day to day transactions, we need something that has all the properties of Bitcoin like decentralization and security but also is a lot more energy-efficient and that scales better.
Thankfully, the cryptocurrency space has picked up quite a bit from the original bitcoin announcement 10 years ago and new age blockchains have come into the picture that are not only free to transact with but also are environmentally friendly, for example, NANO, which uses a block-lattice based on DAG architecture and uses less than 1/4,000,000 energy of a bitcoin transaction.
Large cryptocurrency exchanges that people have access to like Coinbase, Gemini, etc. need to add these environmentally friendly cryptocurrencies so that people can make an informed decision and support the new age movement of decentralized money.
Recently a community request on the Coinbase subreddit has become the most upvoted and commented post of all time.
We appeal to the founders of these large exchanges to list greener alternatives and let its users make an informed decision.
