Save King George's Park - Say 'No' to indoor development
The Issue
Brentwood's King George’s Park is designated green belt and is protected by a Deed of Dedication. But over the years, this open space that is meant to be available free of charge, all year round for the people of Brentwood for their outdoor sport, play and recreation, has been fenced off, built on or tarmacked over.
What threatens it now? Brentwood Council is planning to erect a large, two storey, building for indoor activities like soft play in the middle of our park, with a charge to use almost every new facility. And there are plans for more green space to be fenced off or tarmacked over.
Investment, well that sounds good doesn't it? But as usual, the devil is in the detail. It’s…against planning policy, a financial risk to Brentwood Council, a loss of picnic and free play space and increased parking issues. Not only that, but your trip to the park will cost you lots of money, with your children pestering you to dig into your pockets to use these new facilities.
Lets keep our park as it's meant to be, just a park. With lots of outdoor space to run, play ball, do sports, picnic, swing, climb, walk, listen to the birds and generally enjoy the outdoors. All without being pestered to buy things or go inside on a sunny day.
Please sign this petition and say NO to the plans to develop our park as they stand. Let's get Brentwood Borough Council to rethink before they stumble into this ill thought through development.
This petition was started by Friends of King George's Park – Brentwood. We are a group of like-minded residents with the sole aim of protecting our free, local outdoor space from over-development. We don’t want to stop reasonable upgrading or modernisation of the park's existing facilities that would encourage further outdoor use. But we say NO to indoor activities or more loss of the free outdoor play space in the park.
