Stop road diet and brick overlays on Soutel Drive

Stop road diet and brick overlays on Soutel Drive
The Issue
King/Soutel Crossing
Do you live near or frequent Soutel Drive in Jacksonville, Florida? You should know that the City of Jacksonville is planning to reduce the travel lanes on Soutel Drive to two lanes (one lane each direction also known as a "road diet") and add brick pavements at Soutel & Norfolk, Soutel & Moncrief and Soutel & New Kings Road (https://www.coj.net/departments/jedc/docs/redevelopment-initiatives/kingsoutel-corridor-study-final.aspx) despite community opposition: https://www.jacksonville.com/news/20180831/road-diet-planned-for-jacksonvilles-soutel-drive-raises-concerns
We are against reducing the travel lanes on Soutel Drive because:
- It would increase traffic congestion (the population has increased by over 30,000 and will continue to increase with new development in the area); also there are 3 funeral homes, senior centers, schools and other businesses that need access to multiple travel lanes on Soutel Drive.
- Majority of the community members and business owners along Soutel Drive voted against reducing the travel lanes.
We are against adding brick pavements and/or brick overlays at Soutel & Norfolk, Soutel & Moncrief and Soutel & New Kings Road because:
- They destroy tires and damage vehicle alignments.
- They impede traffic and interrupt traffic flow.
- They are too expensive to properly maintain.
We are asking you to sign this petition demanding that Mayor Lenny Curry, Councilwoman Brenda Priestly Jackson, Councilman Sam Newby and the City of Jacksonville Board members cease and desist all plans and activity to reduce the travel lanes on Soutel Drive and add brick overlays in the King/Soutel Crossing project. And, obtain community input and majority approval before making changes to our community.
We also, want accountability for the violation of the Neighborhoods Bill of Rights.
