Remove Jack and Jill of America Incorporated From The Story-line Of Their Upcoming Show "Potomac Ensemble".

The Issue

As a lifelong member of Jack and Jill of America Inc., I am baffled as to why anyone, especially NBCUniversal, a well-known media company who describes itself as "uniquely positioned to inform, empower and inspire," would purposely deface the name of such a wonderful organization. Bravo Media Network is currently in the production phase of a new show called, "Potomac Ensemble." A show designed to showcase the lives of six affluent African-American women who call Potomac, Maryland, home. This show was strategically devised to display an insightful look into our beloved organization.

Understanding Bravo Media's reputation and the category of scandalous media and entertainment they tend to promote, we can conclude that their intentions for this program will be neither "inspiring" nor “empowering,” as they claim. It is likely that this production will not exemplify a positive outlook and direct representation of the values of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated. According to the NBCUniversal website (in the "Values” section), they allege that when filming a television show, they aim to "celebrate diverse cultures and backgrounds by presenting positive role models, telling diverse success stories, commemorating heritage, and fostering dialogue on a variety of platforms, to create powerfully engaging content that makes a real difference in people's lives." However, based on the previous television shows that they have produced, such as The Real Housewives series and Shahs of Sunset, it would seem otherwise.

The Washington Post described Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, as a, "playground for gossip and cattiness," which is the furthest from the truth. In fact, the nationally recognized organization was founded over seventy five years ago with the purpose of "provid[ing] social, cultural, and educational opportunities for youth." The organization was established on principles of charitable giving and molding young leaders, all while promoting BLACK EXCELLENCE.

In conclusion, allowing this show to publicly air and therefore falsely represent our organization would be a huge disrespect to our Founding Mothers and all the Mothers of this noteworthy organization. I refuse to watch any Television Network disrespect seamlessly one of the best parts of my upbringing and an aspect that truly shaped the man I am today. As members of the one and only Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, we must make our disappointment and disdain known otherwise the legacy of our organization will be defaced. I ask that all Jack and Jill of America members and affiliates, please take part in signing this petition and in-turn keeping the legacy of our organization intact!
