Zoning Change Requested for Brantley County Rescue

Zoning Change Requested for Brantley County Rescue
The Issue
Brantley County Georgia is a small rural county in South Georgia with a very large animal population/control problem. There are countless feral, homeless, starving and abandoned pets in this county alone, also a county with no animal control.
In 2016 I moved to this property which was formerly a goat farm with the dreams of having my own Rescue to help with this horrible problem. In 2019 that dream became a reality and we dove in head first saving animals of Brantley and surrounding counties as well. We here at SGER take in hurt, abused, death row and lots and lots of abandoned moms and puppies. We rehabilitate and find these dogs and horses amazing homes where they will be treated like family.
We recently received a grant from the Atlanta Humane Society who had graciously offered to come to a commissioners meeting to help resolve this issue by our side, as well as our inspector from the Georgia Department of Agriculture. When we called to get instructions to pull our permit for the new building, we were told that we are not allowed to have kennels on our property. We were told 10 kennels/10 dog max. This goes against everything I see out in Brantley county on numerous properties.
We serve the community of Brantley County with no intent to stop. We do this as a service because it is desperately needed here. Most rescues CHARGE their county to serve as Animal Control which is essentially what the rescues in Brantley county are. We do the job that should be provided by our county. I am not asking for anything from the county, no money or anything of that nature. What I'm asking is to allow a rescue who is Federally recognized and Georgia Department of Agriculture licensed and inspected for 41 to 80 dogs and 14 current licensed Equine to continue our mission. To continue serving the residents of Brantley County for years to come. Please sign this petition to show Brantley County Code and even more to show the Commissioners that this is a respected and huge asset to the community. With the grant we received, it not only is help to the community but a $20,000 dollar upgrade to a property residing in Brantley County.
