End Brandy Melville’s One Size Policy

End Brandy Melville’s One Size Policy
The Issue
Young people today struggle with body confidence, low self-esteem and in a time of forward thinking and inclusive campaigns, one of the most popular clothing brands is continuing to ignore these changes and instead insists on promoting policies that exclude people rather than include them. Brandy Melville is a successful clothing company, popular with young people but their size discrimination and complete lack of diversity as a brand has continued with few attempts to modernise the company. A variety of Youtube videos exist where a diverse range of women try on Brandy Melville clothes only to struggle and feel uncomfortable when the clothes did not fit. When looking on their website although the clothes are one size, on product descriptions, it states their clothes ‘fit size X-small/small’.
In 2019, we’ve established there is no such thing as ‘one size fits all’ yet Brandy Melville continues to send a destructive message and in a time of size inclusivity, Brandy Melville has decided to focus on promoting a specific image that is not diverse in any form. The one size policy should not be accepted and we have a responsibility to try and change this as the policy continues to make young people feel insecure and isolated from the ‘perfect’ image the clothing company promotes. I’m calling on Brandy Melville to end its ‘one size fits all’ policy and offer clothes fit for the young people of today. The company policy is not ‘one size fits all’, it’s one size fits small.
