Incloosion matters! Fund Changing Place Toilets (CPTs) in Bradford and Bingley.

I’m petitioning for Bradford to have more Changing Place Toilets because I believe that public services should serve all members of our communities, including ill or disabled people. We know from experience of having a family member with a complex disability that the standard model of ‘disabled toilet’ is not fit for purpose. There are many children and adults who, either because of a temporary condition, accident, birth condition or old age cannot grab a rail or transfer onto a toilet seat without a significant amount of support. We feel that we should be building a bench and hoist system into all public spaces. Disability-design reflects the Town or organisation’s values of dignity and respect and creates a great sense of civic pride. Bradford currently has 9 CPTs across the District (compared with 45 across Leeds). It is not acceptable that that elderly, ill or disabled people are risking injury or isolation and we are calling for additional funding to be in place for all wards by the end of 2021. We are also calling for Town Councils, such as Ilkley, Keighley, Shipley and Bingley to consider the needs of the disabled community when redeveloping the previously closed toilets and put CP facilities in as standard.
