Idaho Statesman says Idaho has the highest dog ownership in the US and ranks number 8 in cat ownership in the US. Overall, that tied Idaho for third place for pet ownership. But according to Newsweek, Idaho is ranked the 9th worst state for animal protection. 43 out of 50 states make animal abuse a felony the first offense, but Idaho only makes it a felony after a third conviction, with a max jail time of a year. It is found that animal cruelty often leads to worst offenses, such as homocide and other violent crimes committed to humans. It's time for Idaho to step up and protect its animal residents.
