The NSW residents of Sunraysia are being severely disadvantaged by the proposed new border restrictions. The new restrictions will see us limited in more ways than many parts of Melbourne (who are currently on Stage 3 restrictions).

On the NSW side of the border, the closest active COVID case is over 500km away. There is 1 active case within a 300km inside Victoria. 3 active cases are in Horsham which fall just outside of this. Sydney is 12 hours away and Melbourne is 6 hours. We are extremely remote.

Many of us have children who attend school in Victoria. We are now having to explain to our children that the person who sits next to them at school is still allowed to;

  • see their grandparents
  • meet a new baby cousin
  • go to their sporting activities
  • go to the shops to buy new socks/underwear etc
  • go to any choice of supermarket to purchase specialty groceries because of an allergy or dietary requirement
  • visit a friend after school
  • buy birthday presents
  • go to Bunnings or other to purchase items to do urgent maintenance on their homes
  • be able to deposit a cheque at the bank
  • be able care for elderly relatives who have no one else on the Vic side
  • be able to visit elderly in nursing homes
  • be able to go to a friends birthday
  • go to McDonalds or other take-away
  • take pets to the preferred vet

The list could go on and on. There are also the issues of locations of workplaces and childcare, getting seasonal workers etc.

How do we explain this injustice to children and the elderly? There is no real logic behind it.

All residents will be disadvantaged to some degree.

We need the restrictions revised to align with The rest of Regional Victoria and Regional NSW.

Please sign this petition in the hopes that the restrictions for us will be reviewed and that common sense will prevail. Ensure you add comments outlining how you will be disadvantaged by the new restrictions.  This will be sent to The Health Minister, Local MP’s, Premiers and Cross Border Commissioner.
