Dear Friends of The Beach,
Thank you for participating in the effort to preserve the Beach Village charm we all know and love.
In just a few short months, over 2,289 of your neighbours have signed the petition to preserve the Beach Urban Design Guidelines that limit developments to 6 stories on Queen Street.
As you know, the City's Official Plan sought to strike a balance between allowing growth while protecting our community from becoming just another concrete jungle of highrise towers. New projects in the Beach have conformed to this rule since its inception in 2012. It has allowed for tasteful condos so that older Beachers can downsize and remain in the community while also providing a more affordable entry point for younger people and others who wish to live in our very special corner of the city.
But our City Councillor Brad Bradford wants to amend the Official Plan to strip us of this protection and pave the way for an 18-storey tower (20 storeys including the mechanical shed on top) at Queen & Coxwell. If this precedent is set, it will create an open season for developers to monetize the Beach and forever change our landscape.
While 2,289 signatures is an impressive accomplishment, we need your help to get us to our next goal of 3,000 signatures.
Please send the link to as many of your friends as possible, and ask them to take 10 seconds to sign the petition. There is an election coming in less then a year; now is the time to make your voices heard.
Help save Queen Street East in the Beach from skyscrapers and massive highrise towers.
