Today, Acorn Canada held a press conference at City Hall releasing details on how much money the development industry contributes to each city councillor. “Who controls Toronto? People or Developers?” It's part of Acorn's "push-back" against developers and the influence they exert in controlling the housing agenda in Toronto.
Their findings show 34% of all campaign contributions came from people in the development industry. Where does our Councillor Brad Bradford rank? Of the 26 politicians, Bradford holds the 5th largest percentage of campaign contributions coming from developers. 41% of $68,650 dollars raised in total.
It’s no wonder why Bradford is so protective of his 18-storey skyscraper in the Beach when only 6-stories are allowed. If this building is approved, it will set a precedent that will destroy the protections we have. The mid-rise, village feeling that helps make the Beach such a family friendly place is under attack by developers and their political enablers, who want to monetize this neighbourhood.
