We are continuously indoctrinated with the thinking that the only way to build is up. High-rises and skyscrapers are needed to fight Climate Change. But studies have shown that “the lifetime carbon emissions increase along with building height.” The highrise proposed at 1631 Queen is no different.
CreateTO and Councillor Bradford parade the fact that this building meets Tier 2 of the Toronto Green Standard. The reality is, when the development partner is selected next year, this will be the bare minimum standard for efficiency!
Don’t let developers fool you into thinking that their products are the solution to Climate Change. Human scale mid-rise buildings are not only a good compromise for density, they are good for the planet.
