The Issue

The Islamic Republic of Iran uses global sporting events as as a platform to further their political agenda and normalize relations without addressing severe human rights abuses is deeply concerning. This practice not only violates the neutrality of sports but also allows Iran to escape accountability on an international scale. A firm stance against this manipulation is essential to uphold the core values of fairness and integrity which is  central to global sports.

Iran has a well-documented history of human rights violations, including stifling free speech, enforcing gender discrimination, and systemic persecution of minorities and political dissidents. Amnesty International and the Human Rights Watch have repeatedly highlighted these issues, yet Iran continues to participate in international sports events while oppressing its citizens at home. This dichotomy creates a façade of normalcy and detracts from the urgent call for reform.

By allowing Iran to partake in these prestigious events, the global community sends a message of complacency, and undermines the efforts led by international human rights organizations striving for justice and equality. Sporting bodies, including the International Olympic Committee and FIFA, have the power and responsibility to take a stand. Excluding Iran from participation until demonstrable changes are made would pressure the government to reconsider their policies and show a commitment to reform.

Moreover, the recent incidents where Iranian athletes have been made to forfeit matches against athletes from certain countries due to political reasons reflect how politics influence Iran's sports policies. Such actions go against the spirit of sportsmanship, which should be free from political interference.

It is imperative that steps are taken to initiate a boycott of Iran from global sports until it addresses the human rights violations comprehensively and undergoes substantial changes within its governance structures. This measure recognizes the power of sports as a unifying global force and insists that it should be used for promoting peace and justice rather than for political gain.

Join us in urging international sports bodies to take definitive action and restore the dignity of sports worldwide. Sign this petition to boycott the Islamic Republic of Iran from participating in global sports events until the necessary changes are robustly implemented. show solidarity with those who fight for human rights and stand against oppression. Your signature can help bring about the change needed for a more fair and just global sporting community.
