ONE MILLION PEOPLE TO BOYCOTT STARBUCKS FOR PARTNERING WITH NESTLÉ

The Issue

ONE MILLION COFFEE DRINKERS TO BOYCOTT STARBUCKS FOR PARTNERING WITH NESTLÉ

On the 28th of August 2018, Starbucks signed a $7.1 billion dollar deal with Nestlé

In basic terms, this means that Nestlé paid Starbucks $7.1 billion dollars to sell their coffee. Starbucks has chosen to ignore that Nestlé continues to be implicated in unethical practices globally and is one of the most hated corporations on earth.

It is important to remember that Starbucks had a choice. They could have chosen to set the stage for ethical investment in fair-trade coffee. Instead, they partnered with Nestlé. Consumers have the power to create consequences for that decision.

Here are some background pointers about Nestlé. It is a basic overview and we advise you to do your own research about what is written here. Full information can be found online.

1. The Baby Milk Scandal - selling powdered milk to uneducated mothers in developing countries where the water (used to mix the powder) is contaminated with disease. The global boycott of Nestlé began in 1977. (Google: Nestlé + Infant Genocide)

2. The Public Right To Water - Nestlé is the largest producer of bottled water in the world. They source this water for free and sell it for billions. Nestlé is continuously pushing for water to be reclassified as a “need” rather than a “right.” Through the subtle shifting of water’s classification, Nestlé can claim even more ownership over this precious natural resource. #waterislife

3. Greenwashing - Spending hundreds of millions of dollars on PR to manipulate the public into believing they are ethical. (Google: Nestlé + Greenwashing)

4. Forced Labour/Child Labour (Google: Nestlé + Child Labour OR Nestlé + Forced Labour Thailand)

5. Deforestation (Google Nestlé + Deforestation or Nestlé OR Orangutan Extinction (images may be disturbing)

6. Ethiopian Debt - this has since been settled but Nestlé’s relentless campaign for compensation from Ethiopia extended through Ethiopia’s famine in 1984. The famine claimed the lives of over one million people. (Google: Nestlé + Ethiopia)

Also, Google: Nestlé + The Chinese Milk Scandal | Nestlé + Price Fixing | Nestlé + Mislabelling | Nestlé + Lawsuits

Nestlé owns a huge amount of household brands and it is not always easy to distinguish which product comes from the Nestlé parent company.

But it is easy to BOYCOTT STARBUCKS.

We the consumers have the power in our pockets. Even the smallest voice is still a voice! Together we can create an avalanche of change. This is about creating a groundswell movement that will cause companies like Starbucks to create ethical partnerships for the good of our planet and all who dwell here. We have the power to demand that change!

In every place where there is a Starbucks, there is also a local, independent coffee house. These places are usually family owned and use fair-trade coffee and tea. We ask you to rise and make a stand against the Starbucks/Nestlé partnership by spending your hard-earned cash at a local, independent cafe.

Please share this petition calling for a BOYCOTT OF STARBUCKS FOR THEIR PARTNERSHIP WITH NESTLÉ. #togetherwerise
