As a survivor of Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA), I cannot stand idly by while not only my city, but a venue dedicated to the love and appreciation of art and culture, invites a man with multiple sexual assault allegations against him. To allow Kevin Spacey, a man facing numerous accusations of sexual assault involving 10 different individuals, to partake in Albuquerque Comic Con 2025 is a slap in the face to the numerous survivors living in our city. This decision would insult and marginalize victims of sexual abuse and let a divisive figure into an event meant to be a safe haven for fans.

Kevin Spacey also admitted to abusive actions towards fellow actor Anthony Rapp when Rapp was just 14. This can be seen as an instance of the grooming of children for sexual encounters, a disturbing and unacceptable act that correlates with sexual abuse and sex trafficking. While Spacey may have been acquitted in a court of law, we, the citizens of Albuquerque, do not have to accept this as a clear indicator of his innocence. The court of public opinion is free to make its own judgments.

Albuquerque is a city that stands against sexual abuse in all its forms. It's a city that supports survivors, provides refuge, and actively fights against perpetrators. By banning Kevin Spacey from our Comic Con in 2025, we send a powerful message: we stand with survivors, and we will not allow the problematic actions of individuals to disrupt our unity. Let us work together to keep our city safe and supportive of survivors.
