We should be appalled but not surprised by an angry old man attempting to bully a young articulate and influential women. When Sydney Ireland spoke out for equal access for girls to join the Boy Scouts, she was targeted for harassment-bullying by a registered adult leader, a member of the honor society.  Concerned for the safety of the groups this aggressive and potentially dangerous Scout leader targeted, including Sydney, we filed a complaint with the Boy Scout leadership. We were left disappointed and feeling unsafe by the inaction by Boy Scout leaders, their continued refusal to provide information to us or to revoke the membership of the abusive Scout leader.  It was not until Sydney’s elected officials, including Congresswomen Maloney, held a press conference, 8 months after filing a complaint, that the Boy Scout leadership let us know they removed the harasser-cyberbully.  Families must know that the Boy Scouts is a safe space and their children will not be harassed by an adult leader - cyberbully.  Based on our experience, and what seemed like the retaliation by the Boy Scout leadership that followed, we did not feel safe or supported. Boy Scout President, former Ernst & Young CEO Jim Turley, remains silent, except after we filed the complaint, he did personally tell Sydney that none of her prior work in Scouting would count, and, for no reason other than she is a girl, she will have to wait to earn the highest award in Scouting, the Eagle rank. Sydney has completed the requirements for Eagle rank and the behavior by the Boy Scout President appears to us to be in retaliation for filing a complaint against one of his leaders.  She deserves to be recognized as an Eagle Scout, now.  

We continue to call on Boy Scout President, former Ernst & Young CEO Jim Turley, to speak out against the harassment against Sydney Ireland and so many others. Where is the outrage against the attack on young women?  Where is the leadership by men, President Turley?
