Celebrate Women’s History Month!

PBS’s interview for “To The Contrary” featuring Sydney Ireland and Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney as they discuss opportunities in the Scouts BSA, and ongoing gender bias, will air in New York 11:30 AM on Saturday morning on Channel Thirteen.

As of February 2019, young women are permitted to join Scouts BSA. However, in a blatant act of gender discrimination, the BSA leadership will not count any work they have completed prior to February. And the BSA is actually banning these women from achieving the highest rank of Eagle Scout until October 2020.

The question is why?

We must begin a conversation now to address sexual discrimination and harassment, cyberbullying, homophobia, racism, and all forms of discrimination in Scouts BSA. We must help every child feel welcome and safe in Scouting.

I ask that you please email BSA President Jim Turley and Chief Scout Executive Michael Surbaugh. Please ask the BSA leadership to count the work these young women have completed in order to earn rank and merit badges, and to end gender discrimination in Scouts BSA.

The Scout leaders can be reached at: laurieanndaly@gmail.com; Michael.surbaugh@scouting.org; pr@scouting.org; myscouting@scouting.org

The story will be online at pbs.org.

Thank you for your help.

Gary Ireland
