This is the International Day of the Girl or as we are also calling it: Scouts BSA - Girl Empowerment Day
It was one year ago, October 11, 2017, the BSA announced that girls would be welcome in the Boy Scouts. Why is the organization still discriminating against young women?
Last week Boy Scout National Chair Jim Turley again announced that the Boy Scouts will continue to ban girls until February 2019. He further announced that, I, and other young women, will be denied all Rank Advancement and Merit Badges we have earned and will have to start all over! Why?
With the personal encouragement of the BSA national leader, I worked on Rank Advancement, Merit Badges and so many service projects. I am ready to complete my Eagle Project - connecting adoptable dogs with veterans and providing information on training of these pets so they can become service or therapy dogs. My Eagle Project is partnering with a local shelter, Bideawee, and will take place on Veteran's Day, November 11th. Why do the Boy Scouts want to punish me and so many young women who have worked so hard by denying us what we have earned? How does it help the BSA to humiliate young women?
We should all recognize and pay tribute to the current female Eagle Scouts.
Please send an email to Mr. Turley respectfully asking him to allow girls to join the Boy Scouts now. Ask him to work with us to set up a commission to review the work girls have completed, so our work will be recognized towards Rank Advancement and Merit Badges. Please don't deny us opportunities we have earned. Girls have worked just as hard for recognition and deserve to the same Rank Advancement and Merit Badges as anyone else. Send to pr@scouting.org; myscouting@scouting.org; communications@scouting.org. Please also check out and retweet @SydneyBIreland. Thank you for your continued support.
Young women demonstrated enormous leadership in pushing the BSA to do the right thing and accept girls into the program. Because of this, girls will rise through the ranks and become Eagle Scouts alongside the best of the boys. All we need is the opportunity Mr. Turley.
URGENT: Mr. Turley, Please End Harassment and Bullying of Young Women and Immediately Remove Adult Leaders Who Harass or Retaliate
Internet bullying and harassment of any kind, particularly by adult leaders, is unacceptable. On October 11, 2018 - Scouts BSA-Girl Empowerment Day - please tell Mr. Turley that we deserve a safe program, free from harassment and retaliation. Support young women who report harassment and provide essential information to the victim. Protecting harassers is unacceptable.
