End the Muni - Let real carbon reduction begin NOW.

The Issue

End the Muni - Let real carbon reduction begin NOW, not 6 years from now.

This Boulder initiative is designed to :
End the City of Boulder effort to create an electric utility and,
Begin an immediate and real carbon reduction effort using those previously wasted funds

In a normal year, if sufficient signatures are collected from City of Boulder residents this initiative will be on the November 3, 2020 ballot. We would need about 4,000 signatures and it would have require a serious effort to accomplish this.

However now in the time of COVID-19 obtaining those signatures could be deadly.  The Boulder City Council has indicated that they are aware of this and might put an initiative on the ballot if there is evidence of community support.

The initiative will be worded as follows:

Shall specific revenues of the City of Boulder utility occupation tax collected after December 31, 2020 be exclusively allocated to fund solar incentives, wind incentives, a City of Boulder administered renewable energy certificates broker and programs that promote energy use reduction using the taxes approved by the voters in 2011 by Ordinance 7808 and extended in 2017 by Ordinance 8189 to fund the exploration and creation of a municipal electric utility, subject to the same terms and conditions as the original tax, including having the tax expire on December 31, 2022 and being an exception to the revenue and spending limits of Article X, Section 20 of the Colorado Constitution?

This initiative will defund the muni and redirect those funds to real carbon reduction efforts. It will end the muni. It will end the poor leadership, poor legal decisions and financial shenanigans that have been the hallmarks of the muni effort for almost 10 years.

We seek to collaborate rather than litigate with Xcel. We are not funded by Xcel in any way. We are Boulder citizens determined to end the Muni and let real carbon reduction begin NOW, not 6 years from now.  For more information go to EndTheMuni.org.

Boulder has already spent or lost over $33 million and ten years.  That time and money are forever...LOST.

Our goal is at least 4,000 signatures.  In the past there were 13,000 to 14,000 votes against the muni!

We appreciate all support, but we really need Boulder Resident signatures to present to the City Council.  We really need donations to get mailers out to Boulder residents as well, so if you can, go to EndTheMuni.org and donate.

Thank you.
