Developer Michael Norton, a life-long South Boston resident, owns the property located at 749 East Broadway in South Boston. Norton wants to bring a Starbucks coffee outlet to the corner of L Street and East Broadway, a property that is already zoned for a restaurant. The motion was denied by the three-member Boston Licensing Board at a hearing on Thursday, May 5 due to opposition from a few local competitors.

Having a Starbucks would be a great addition to the neighborhood which currently lacks cafes that have extended hours of operation. Despite opposition claims that Starbucks would hurt local businesses, Dunkin Donuts outlets already operate throughout South Boston.
