Remove John F. McQuillan, Jr., from the BC High Board of Trustees.

The Issue

Over recent weeks and months, information has come to light regarding Mr. McQuillan's actions and attitudes as chairman of the Boston College High School Board of Trustees. He is alleged to be attempting what is for all intents and purposes a coup d'etat - performing a unilateral overhaul of the school's governing structures and principles, without majority approval of the Board.  He is also alleged to be leaking false information about the Board's activities to the Boston Globe, creating what some are calling a smokescreen to disguise his real intentions. In particular, Mr. McQuillan is accused of using the "polarizing coed debate" to hide other intentions, such as relocating the school, cutting it off from the Society of Jesus, shrinking the Board of Trustees, and marketing to wealthy families exclusively.

Regardless of whether any of Mr. McQuillan's plans would ever actually come to fruition, this behavior and the proposed changes would hurt the legacy and standing of Boston College High School, creating a rift between the Board of Trustees and supporters of the school, including alumni, faculty, and financial benefactors.

Under Article III, Header A, Section 4 of the Trustee By-Laws, it is possible to remove a board member from their position. The relevant section reads: "Removal of a Trustee from office may be effected by a majority vote of the entire Board without assigning cause therefore, when such action is, in the judgment of the majority of the said Board, to be in the best interests of the Corporation."

It is clear that Mr. McQuillan's behavior has been detrimental to the legacy and principles of Boston College High School, and it is with that sentiment that this petition advocates for his immediate removal from the Board of Trustees.
