28 Jan 2016
Prouty Supporters, We wanted to share this wonderful open letter to Boston Children's Hospital (BCH) Board of Trustees Chairman Stephen Karp from BCH physician Dr. Michael Rich, M.D., M.P.H., who has been a physician at the hospital for 25 years. Dr. Rich originally sent the letter as a personal correspondence on December 18, 2015, but it was never acknowledged. The letter, which has now been published on The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF's) website, urges the hospital to save the historic Prouty Garden, and calls the decision to destroy the garden "shortsighted and false economy." The letter may be read in full at: http://tclf.org/landslides/doctors-plea-boston-childrens-hospital-save-prouty-garden You may also enjoy reading and commenting on two recent letters to the editor in the Boston Globe: Don't erase a memory: A moving tribute from parent David Richwine about his son, Josh, and his family's experience with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, Boston Children's Hospital, and the Prouty Garden. The piece is beautiful, brave, difficult, and necessary. We encourage everyone to read it and share it. http://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/2016/01/22/the-memories-preserved-prouty-garden/GGcSLqUK1idIeS0X4fedKJ/story.html Children’s Hospital’s fiscal strategy called into question: This letter in response to a recent article about Children’s current battle with Aetna over reimbursement demands for for-profit physician practices points to the hospital’s plan to eliminate the Prouty Garden as further example of "some questionable decision-making underway at Children’s." https://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/letters/2016/01/28/children-hospital-fiscal-strategy-called-into-question/yFEhtXRBuDOaDgKKrqxrYL/story.html As always, thank you for your support! -The Friends of the Prouty Garden
