Victoria Burden started this petition to Boston Borough Council

V-ATE is an automotive themed Diner based at the Sutterton Roundabout near Boston in Lincolnshire.  V-ATE have been trading since July of 2017 although at a smaller location.  We went ahead with our planned growth and the new company "V-ATE Pit Stop" took its place at Unit 2B on the Sutterton Services location in September after furloughing the original team since March 2020.

Unlike our competitors we are currently receiving no money from local government.  Please read on to find out why and help us by signing and raising awareness for our cause to help protect our independent restaurant business and our team....

*Since March 2020 we have been able to trade for 6 weeks and 4 days. Caused by covid delays to our premises.

* We have 25 full and part time employees (all furloughed with the exception of 4 of our company directors who are taking no wages at all).

* Boston Borough Council did not instruct the VOA (Valuation Office Agency) to rate our premises until 1 week prior to the 2nd lockdown even though they knew our intended trading date back in August.

* No rateable value has been issued and we do not show as a premises eligible for paying rates. We believe this was put on the back burner as the Council did not stand to gain anything themselves as hospitality is currently exempt from paying rates.

* With no rateable value we are not eligible for any of the government grants.

* This means we have been refused the government grants so far. We are also due to miss out on further grants announced today. As the new year comes round we will be down by at least £4K compared to other companies of our type and size. The council have said they will issue payment once we are rated but this is an open ended gesture and they have taken no further action to help move it along.

* We have been offered no rent holiday so our bills never stop. Even the payments to HMRC mount to more than we would be receiving from the council (if we were indeed receiving them).

* We have prepared ourselves to last out a reasonable amount of time but with no end game in sight we are losing all hope that we will return before May or possibly even June! How is a company to survive this starvation???

* We kept our team employed in the good faith there would be opportunity and growth within our company for all of them. We hired people, we promoted people, we gave pay rises to keep them motivated as we pushed on to our new goal of making V-ATE bigger, better and stronger than before.

* We are trying so hard to be a beacon of hope for this area, a brand and a business to be proud of! We wish we could say we were proud of our local authority right now but all we see is incompetence and ignorance. People who truly do not care about independent business.

Our local MP (Matt Warman) is aware of the case.

Please don't think that we are asking for a handout or that our business has ended up in this state because it has not been run properly.  Our business traded for 6 weeks during a global pandemic and was profitable (we have been eating into those profits since November) and we have achieved everything we have from our own efforts and never asked for a grant of any sort.

We are only asking for what we are entitled to in order to keep our team employed and our business afloat.

Please support us in signing this petition at a time when you can't support us by visiting our restaurant.  With your help we hope that we will survive long enough to welcome you back later this year.

Victoria, Neil, Lesley, Bob and the whole V-ATE Team xxx
