Let Boston Marathon charity runners defer bibs to 2021

Let Boston Marathon charity runners defer bibs to 2021

The Issue

On May 28th the Boston Athletic Association canceled the Boston Marathon and is making it virtual. They are allowing the elites and qualifiers to defer their bibs to 2021 leading charity runners to run virtually. Charity runners have been working since October to earn their spot and should have the opportunity to experience the Boston Marathon from start to finish. A virtual run if no one knows is a run in an area that you pick and go out to run 26.2 miles with a time limit of 6hrs. These virtual runs don't consist of cheering crowds and your supporters. It's just you and your wondering thoughts by mile 20. As a charity runner myself there are two reasons why I wanted to run the Boston Marathon: I really wanted to challenge the goal that I have set for myself since my sophomore year of high school and being a patient of Mass General Hematology and Oncology department I really wanted to give back to the kids that suffer every day. The kids that I’m raising money for really deserve to see each and every runner on race day so they can show their support and see them run by. To keep things fair The Boston Athletic Association should defer ever 2020 participant to 2021 and not except new runners.
