The Issue

In Febuary 2015 the main taxi rank on kings lynn bus station was relocated (with no signs to even let anyone know it was there until complaints and local press coverage some 6 months later shamed the council into erecting some) from the far corner of the bus station to the totaly unsuitable dark, dingey, dirty and smelly inside location of the bottom level of the cattle market car park (Sainsbury's) this was due to a £1.6 million blank canvas of the area redevelopment of the bus station, this has resulted in the drivers and customers facing many health and safety issues involving poor air quality from car/motorcycle/taxi exhaust emmisions which is making the drivers who have no choice but to use this rank 8 to 10 hours a day to suffer from respiritory problems headaches sore eyes etc, the general public are now also using the area near the rank as a smoking area (which is our workplace therfore its illegal) this is due to the "caring councils lol" no smoking policy now in force on the bus station itself, the area has very poor lighting conditions (84lux) and is noisy, no warning signs have been erected inside or outside to warn drivers using the car park that a taxi rank is even there, there is a dangerous corner of of the carpark with no proper crossing for customers to cross to enter the rank safely either, this area in perticular has seen many near misses between cars and pedestrians and is an accident waiting to happen, copies of the various risk assessments that should have been carried out before the relocation have been asked for but not supplied so a request under the freedom of information act has been requested but until such information has been supplied we can only assume that none were done, an inspection of sorts was carried out by the council on August 10th 2015 after the first letter of complaint was sent highlighting the many health and safety issues, some of these health and safety issues were acknowledged by this report but over two months later none of these issues have been addressed and acted upon and rectified, the area covered by the licencing authority of kings lynn and west Norfolk has seen a very unhealthy trend over the past 18 years in kings lynn, Hunstanton and Downham market where the taxi ranks have constantly been moved to a worse position in favour of buses, eg, one was even moved in favour of a bus stop for 2 buses a week and another onto private property where drivers now have to buy one of a limited number of permits and pay an extra approx £400 a year to work from it, now the rank in question has followed this trend and has been completely removed from the bus station all together, make of this what you will but something doesnt look right so i think that there needs to be an inquiry and some sort of an investigation into what exactly has been going on here over the years between the council and the bus operators, so please sign and share this e pettition, and click like and share on our facebook page https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1486646878322535 Thank you
