Thank you all SO much for your support and comments. The Council seems to be heeding the community's views and is considering keeping the rocket.
HOWEVER it's still not a certainty. They are going to have a look under the rocket to inspect the foundations. This means the rocket will be temporarily be closed, but I am assured it will not be moved and will re-open. See information leaflet above.
Following the inspection we look forward to a clear commitment and details of what is planned as soon as possible.
A letter received from the Council:
Dear Resident
We’re writing to you to provide an update.
We are currently evaluating the feedback received during our recent community consultation on the proposal to redevelop the play area in Central Gardens. While no decision has yet been made on the rocket or existing play equipment, we have heard the community’s desire to keep the current rocket.
We are genuinely exploring options that could allow us to keep the existing rocket within a redeveloped play area. To further evaluate the feasibility of retaining the existing rocket, we need to complete some additional structural inspections.
These underground inspections will be conducted throughout this week. Please note the rocket will be closed off during this time to ensure community safety and to enable us to complete the inspection works thoroughly. The surrounding play equipment will remain open.
Once the additional investigations have been finalised and the evaluation of community feedback is completed, you will receive an update on what the next steps will be.
