In the past 24 hours, we've seen Boris Johnson attempt to shift responsibility for the scale of the outbreak in care homes onto the homes and staff themselves. It is deeply worrying to see a total lack of proper analysis of what went wrong and a reluctance to acknowledge the government's role in the crisis. We need the government to step up and show a willingness to ask the right questions, learn from mistakes and implement the changes needed in advance of a potential second wave.
What next?
The pressure is helping to bring this closer. Last week the petition continued to grow and it's incredible to see the support building for a public inquiry. We were able to secure some great press coverage and the Health Ombudsman also came out in support of the idea of an inquiry. Today, thanks to your support, we hit the milestone of 100,000 signatures and by continuing to build on this we can really show the strength of feeling behind our campaign. You can help by clicking here to tweet in support and continuing to share the petition in any way available to you whether that's Whatsapp, email or Facebook.
Support for those affected
We're also building our strength in numbers within the campaign as bereaved families continue to join us in our quest for justice. If you or someone you know has been personally touched by bereavement due to Covid-19, you can direct them to the information on how to join on our website. If you'd like to support us but haven't been personally bereaved you can stay up to date with the campaign by following us on Facebook and Twitter.
