There is a cataclysmic problem with license applications at the DVLA. Not only are the delays extremely frustrating but it is costing many people their livelihoods, their freedom and their mental health.

Learner drivers aren’t being issued their provisional licenses or even pass licences. People who have voluntarily surrendered their license for medical reasons/disability and waited the subsequent 12 months for renewal have been pushed to the back of the queue. Commercial drivers and not receiving their medical licenses and are losing vital work. People can’t get to hospital to see their loved ones who are suffering. The list goes on. 

 There are also an alarming number of people who’s identification documents have been lost or take so long to return they haven’t been able to go abroad to see family or carry out other important tasks where a passport or ID is needed including starting a new job.

No one answers the calls or emails or online chats. We have no where to turn and it isn’t just frustrating it’s scandalous that in this country we cant carry out our legal right to drive due to incompetence in a governmental agency and the sheer lack of common sense.

please consider all options how this can be managed and reformed. Perhaps opening temporary or permanent offices outside wales as an example, whose draconian COVID restrictions are a large contributor to this problem. Offices in England and Scotland would relieve the bottle neck, create hundreds of jobs and save people’s jobs and lives. Hire more staff and make the processing of these applications a major priority and help get ordinary citizens back on the roads and back to work.
