Every year the issue of fireworks being set off within communities, mainly by youths, is getting worse. Recently, a group of kids in a park were setting fireworks off amongst themselves and had been putting them under cars. This park is frequented by dog walkers and people with young children - all are in danger during such times. Also, a lot of dogs are terrified of them, mine included. If anyone could see how much she shakes they’d weep for her; she’s not getting any younger. When they go off she shakes from head to foot and sits next to me. I have to wrap her in a blanket. This is a social scourge, to say nothing of the health and safety implications. Every year there are news reports showing fireworks being thrown at firemen and women. How can this be allowed to continue? If shops and parents can’t exercise common sense and follow rules then the opportunity of profit or lax parenting needs to be taken from them.
