To review the current NHS nursing wages in order to give proper wages.
The Issue
NHS staff have been at the frontline of this Covid-19 pandemic and the amount of stress, loss, pain, dedication and sacrifice is beyond any of us can imagine. Recently, Thursday evenings mark the time where the nation comes together in support of their commitment to saving lives.
I call on all of us to go further and unite together and ask the Government to review the current NHS pay for nurses! Currently and according to the Nurses.co.uk, 2020-2021 pay for Band 1 through Band 3 start at less than 20k. Between 2010-2015 standard nursing wage increased only by 2.2% - which was not in line with inflation. Then, in 2015 & 2017, a 1% increase was implemented (and capped I believe) each year and 1.7% for 2020-2021. The Guardian’s report 26/02/2019 reported that 58% of NHS nurses reported unpaid overtime, which totals around 1 million unpaid hours per week!
Furthermore, Tory MP’s voted against scrapping the 1% cap on their pay rise and cheered as the results of 323-309 came in. Many have paid the ultimate price in this war they were not prepared for or asked for. Please help me get the Government to finally do what it’s right for our frontline NHS nurses and pay their worth!
