There is a truly dreadful healthcare crisis where healthcare staff are working in desperate circumstances, in unfamiliar and worrying situations where they are doing their duty to provide direct care to extremely unwell patients with the novel coronavirus.

Healthcare staff are being redeployed and working outside of their usual remit. They are being charged for the privilege of working in highly unusual and difficult circumstances. They are worried about the risks to their own health and that of those close to them. The NMC charges £120 a year to allow a nurse to work and other professional bodies charge more. 

Registration fees should be reimbursed for 2020 to recognise the enormous contribution that healthcare workers are making to benefit their nation and by extension world. This pandemic will continue to add pressure to those providing care for months to come and they should not have to pay to provide this service.
