Protect cats under the 1988 Road act

The Issue

Under the 1988 Road Act dogs are protected meaning by law you have to stop and give details if you hit a dog or if there is no owner around police have to be informed, however cats do not have the same protection. Currently you can hit a cat and drive away without stopping or even moving the cat out the road alive or deceased meaning they are more likely to be hit again decreasing any chance they have of surviving. I myself have lost two cats to cars one the person drove away and we didn't find out until two days later. Our other cat the woman stopped and knocked on doors to find us. I think under the Road Act 1988 it should be law for cats to be protected as much as dogs. Cats should have the same rights as dogs and if there are no owners about as cats do like to travel further away from home than dogs police should be informed.
