Every year a new petition is created with the goal of ending the sale of fireworks to the general public due to the fear and distress they cause to our four legged friends and veterans with PTSD. Every year its debated and nothing new comes from it. Not even 4 days after the 5th of November, a group of people thought it would be funny to barricade staff members working in RSPCA Harmsworth Animal Hospital in Finsbury Park and relentlessly light fireworks directed at the building. Staff inside were not only trying to protect themselves but also the poor animals inside that were recuperating from operations, injuries or maltreatment. The last thing any of them needed was a 'warzone' style attack. Staff made the decision to move animals away from the front of the building due to the level of distress that they were unfairly experiencing. We need to stop this! Ban the sale of fireworks to the general public, or, put in place a system to monitor the sales of fireworks by scanning and registering ID to deter people from being idiots with these 'controlled explosives'. Year after year, animals both in loving homes and on the streets suffer due to our 'traditions'. Year after year, veterans with PTSD suffer. Why is nothing being done by the government to stop this?
