Please Don't Kill My Dad

Please Don't Kill My Dad

The Issue

My dad is currently on an ECMO Machine, he contracted Covid-19 on the 13th of October and was admitted to hospital on the 21st of October, his condition was worsening and was Induced Into a coma on the 28th of October he was at whips cross hospital and on the 4th November as he started to deteriorate. He was placed on a ECMO machine he has been on the machine for six weeks and they now want to turn his machine off. We do not consent for this to be done but we have been told we do not have a choice and they do not require consent from us. My dad's lungs are severely damaged however I have done a lot of research and there has been other cases where the lungs have rejuvenated and the cells re populated and a reduction of inflammation with time, we appreciate what the medica and team have done for my dad thus far but he needs more time. His heart is healthy His liver is healthy His kidneys are healthy When we have gone to visit him, he blinks so much which shows he knows we are there. He urinates and opens his Bowles and they want to turn his machine off. They have said if his kidneys begin to fail, they will not treat him for this which I believe is medical negligence. Why are they not giving him more time? we know this virus effects the BAME community more and the healing process takes a longer time. there was a case where a man was on ECMO for 200 days and his lungs were just as bad as my dad's and his family were told he wasn’t going to make it three times and he ended up surviving because he had more time.My dad has only been Covid negative since Monday the 14th of December. So, his body has fought so hard too rid of the virus they need to give him the time to try to heal his lungs. My dad does not deserve this, he should be given a chance to live! My family do not consent to his life support being withdrawn yet the hospital will still be proceeding to do so this Christmas Eve, Thursday 24th December 2020. He has tested negative for less than a week, has been fighting off the virus for 6 weeks yet is not being given time to recover. Where is the justice? His heart, lungs & kidneys at present are functioning normally.

But the doctors have said that if his kidneys begin to fail they will withhold treatment ie REFUSE TO TREAT HIM.

I don’t know if this post will garnish enough social media attention to bring to the attention of parliament but I really hope it does.

Everyone deserves a fighting chance!
