Living Wage for Social Care workers

The Issue

Social care workers deserve a wage that reflects their dedication, work ethic, and selflessness. While the rest of us stay at home, it is social care workers who go out day and night to support others to live a full and meaningful life.

We clapped them on Thursday evenings as they supported people through the start of the pandemic. They can now receive a free Care badge to highlight their invaluable work - but they deserve so much more. They deserve a Real Living Wage.

What message does it send to our key workers if the UK Government does not think they deserve a wage they can actually live off?

We call on central government and our local authorities to build the Living Wage into the 2021-22 commissioning rates for Social Care. This is the first step in providing the long-overdue recognition, respect, and tangible reward that is so needed and so deserved for our social care workers.
