Citizens' Rights post Brexit - online event, 25 June
The event is the first in a series with our campaign team and with opinion-formers and influencers from across politics with the aim of putting the UK government under more scrutiny on the issue of citizens' rights.
Some of the questions that need to be asked are these:
1) When will we find out why 1.7m EU citizens and Britons abroad were disenfranchised from the EU elections in May 2019 ?
2) Will EU citizens in the UK still be able to vote and stand in local elections after 31 December 2020?
3) When will the 15 year rule that disenfranchises Britons abroad be scrapped?
If you would like to take part in this event and have not yet joined New Europeans as a member, you can do so here:
This event has been commissioned by the Labour Movement for Europe, a pro-European group affiliated to the Labour Party.
We will be holding similar events for other groups including the London European Movement in due course.
We are delighted to announce that will be joined by Kate Willoughby of #EmilyMatters for the briefing on 25 June.
Kate is an actor, writer and campaigner and performs in the role of the suffragette Emily Davison of whom Millicent Fawcett said:
"Courage calls to courage everywhere, and its voiced cannot be denied."
Emily Davison will remind us that the rights of #the5million concern us all us, just as the campaign for women's suffrage did before us.
So please try and join us on 25 June - if you can.
And enjoy the video below of Kate, Roberta and Natasha standing up for the rights of #the5million.
