Implement the safe word Mask-19 in pharmacies to save women fleeing Domestic Abuse

The Issue

I understand that the Coronavirus pandemic has so many different effects on people’s lives, however I’m choosing to really focus my efforts on the particular issue of domestic abuse and the loss of women’s lives due to the lockdown. I would like to see urgent efforts from the Government and local authorities to bring the idea (originally from France) of using pharmacies as places where women can use the code word ‘Mask 19’ to report domestic abuse. The pharmacists will then be able to alert local authorities and save lives. Worldwide, Google searches for fleeing Domestic Abuse have gone up a staggering 75% since the beginning of this global pandemic. Perpetrators will be strongly limiting the freedom of women and girls they are abusing, using this lockdown as an opportunity to increase their abuse. Yes there is the 'silent call' available for those experiences Domestic Abuse (calling 999 and then dialling 55 when prompted) but police can’t always track exact locations especially in blocks of flats and shared houses. This is where the Mask-19 system could create an alternative system for reporting abuse. For example, picking up medical supplies or going to the shops may be the only time women are able to leave the house, and would be the perfect window for them to report abuse safely out of harms way
