Helpline for people walking alone at night

Helpline for people walking alone at night

The Issue

Walking alone at night in a quiet, dark or empty area can be massively worrying for the majority of women and men. There are people who NEED to walk through scary areas looking over their shoulders for work etc.

What I want to propose is a helpline that people can call to speak to someone who has immediate access to 999, should anything happen to them whilst they are on the phone.

More often than not when people are walking in the night they may not be able to call a friend or family member as it could be very late at night/in the morning.

By being able to call a (simple) number the caller can explain where they are and talk to someone whilst they walk to their destination, giving information on where they are over the phone as they walk.

If something awful happens or that person suddenly feels uncomfortable by the presence of someone else, feeling like they are being followed, watched etc, and sometimes not have the chance to contact emergency services to feel safe, the person over the phone can send the appropriate services to their exact location.

Not only would this give people reassurance that they are not “alone” when they have to walk in uncomfortable situations, it could also deter possible rapists/attackers from doing something if they know that their potential victim is on the phone to the helpline and would consequently be caught immediately.
