Due to the COVID -19 outbreak and the strict restrictions which have been put in place by the Government it has affected many people's livelihoods and has had a detrimental effect on everyday life and financial circumstances for many.

The Aviation industry has had a detrimental impact whereby there has been travel bans by many countries and quarantine rules for individuals returning to the UK which has decreased travel thus in return it has made a large number of individuals redundant in the aviation industry.

The Government has stepped into help with the Furlough Scheme which ended on the 31st October 2020 at which point a high number of individuals have been made redundant but since then it has been announced that the Furlough Scheme will be extended till March 2021.

This calls on the Aviation Industry to reinstate their workers to help them have access to the extended furlough scheme and to help them through this difficult time everyone is facing. Our Aviation Industry should take action to help with finances which have been made available by the Government.

With the announcement to extend the Furlough Scheme this will not only provide financial support for everyone who has been made redundant but it will also give companies within the aviation industry time to assess the situation and devise a plan moving forward. This will also give time to Companies to re assess the redundancy numbers, if the situation regarding COVID 19 improves it will give them the option to bring back fully trained staff and reduce the number of overall redundancies.

The Government has given the Aviation industry a huge helping hand to ensure staff are retained and to give them time to re assess the situation. We urge all the Aviation industry from airlines to ground handlers to reinstate there staff back so they can have access to the Furlough scheme and give them a chance to return to work if the situation improves.
