Boris Johnson has lost credibility. It is time he resigned
The Issue
I am not sure what Boris is guilty of but he has lost the support of the people who elected him. Tory MPs are unlikely to challenge him as this would probably cost them their jobs if a general election was the result. There ought to be a mechanism for the public to challenge the performance of a leader the country has lost trust in. Boris seems to be surviving on the basis that he and his government have been working hard to get the country through the pandemic, but we are never going to know whether the government made the right decisions at the right time, but what we do know that if anyone is responsible for us surviving this pandemic, the credit must go to the British People who obeyed the rules. There are people who lost loved ones, buried love ones, gave up visiting loved ones in care homes, and even those who got married in reduced circumstances because they obeyed the rules. Boris did not obey the rules and refuses to even admit that he attended parties when they were flouting the rules. In Parliament this week, he promised to fix it, but what is he going to fix. He can't undo the damage he has done to the credibility of the office he holds by distracting the public with rhetoric promising a better future. How can we trust someone who wrote the rules and decided that they did not apply to him, and won't even answer a question that simply asks whether he was actually present at one of these parties even though it is very evident that he was.
