Get Fast Fashion Rates Down To Save The Environment
The Issue
The government needs to take fast fashion off the streets of at least reduce it if we want a less polluted future
The continual drive of fast fashion adds to the waste problem, amounting to a staggering 10,000 items of clothing being sent to landfill every five minutes, equivalent to £140 million in value every year. This is a global issue and is destroying our planet.
The pressure to reduce costs and speed up production time means that environmental corners are cut in the name of greed and profit. FastFashion's negative impact includes the use of cheap, toxic textile dyes – with the fashion industry the second largest polluter of clean water globally after agriculture.
Global juggernauts such as Zara, H&M and Topshop, UNIQLO and GAP are no doubt running the fastfashion game and have been for some time, the likes of Forever 21, Boohoo and FashionNova have come along and are making fashion faster than ever before.
What is disgusting is that the UK spends £27 billion on clothes each year and there's no sign that our obsession for fastfashion is slowing down. Most of this huge sum is pocketed long before it reaches the salaries of factory workers or cotton farmers.
If you want to make a change you should sign this petition for a brighter cleaner future.
