For decades Rough Sleeping has gradually increased nationally, and in some parts of the UK more than others.

"Guardian" dated: 26th February 2020, "Homelessness is now five times worse in the UK than the government admits, according to figures that reveal more than 28,000 people were recorded sleeping rough in a year."

But council responses to a freedom of information (FoI) request show nearly 25,000 people were recorded sleeping rough at least once in England during the latest year on record, according to the BBC.

Hundreds of millions of pounds have been offered to local authorities to help build more affordable, and social housing, and the PM, would like to see 40,000 new social housing built nationally in the UK over the coming year. This volume of social housing is a drop in a huge ocean!

According to National Housing Foundation, they say "The government spent £1.27bn on affordable housing in 2018, according to the National Housing Federation. It wants to see that rise to £12.8bn a year for 10 years, so 145,000 more houses can be built every year."

Everyone deserves to live in a decent affordable home with support (if needed) wrapped around them. The average rough sleepers costs the NHS £85 million to treat every year, and the money saved can go back into the NHS More social housing building to Further reduce the unnecessary stress on our beloved NHS.

Councils should build more social housing on brown sites, as well as forcing more landlords who own houses, which are derelict to bring them back into public use faster, and all proceeds from right to buy social housing Must be used to solely build Social housing only.
