The worldwide Covid-19 pandemic has devastated economies and family units alike. It has been indiscriminate in those that it has struck down and has spread fear and apprehension throughout the country.

At the same time that Covid-19 has been terrorising the world, the pandemic has also brought together the nation like never before. 

We have seen the great work that our scientists have done in creating new and exciting vaccines to bring some normality back to our lives. We have seen our healthcare system struggle to cope with surging numbers of our sick family and friends and the non stop work that this entailed for those who were charged with caring for our loved ones. We have also seen the small acts of kindness that mean so much to us...like buying the weekly shop for our neighbours, organisations and community groups alike dropping free hot/cold food and drinks into hospitals, care homes, supermarkets, schools, logistics companies etc in order to keep our key workers sustained. We have seen the weekly clap for our key workers and the likes of Captain Tom who raised millions to help the NHS.

In recognition of the hard work and coming together of the nation to fight the Covid-19 pandemic I call on the U.K. government to create a new public holiday. This new public holiday can be viewed forever as both a time of reflection for the loved ones that we have lost whilst at the same time be seen as a celebration of all that our nation has achieved over the past year.
