Plastic pollution is negatively affecting humans and animals worldwide. The only way we are able to change this is by adjusting our lifestyle and the products we use.

Single-use plastics, such as:

• carrier bags
• drinks bottles
• unnecessary food packaging
• plastic cutlery
• other types of multi layer packaging

are some of the largest contributors to plastic pollution. If we use sustainable alternatives to these toxic products, the environment will benefit massively, especially the oceans. The overall quality of life for the human race will massively improve. I will include some great websites which offer detailed advice and products to swap in for the awful, harmful plastics that the majority of people use today.

Many countries have already banned some single-use plastics, such as Antigua and Barbuda, Chile, Colombia and Zimbabwe. The U.K. has taken measures, for example the 5p plastic bag charges (which has decreased the use of this product by approximately 85%), however I think we should be implementing more effective regulations and making it easier for us to swap to sustainable alternatives. All making these changes together will lead to plastic-free lives becoming normality - which is my goal. If our country makes big changes, other countries will hopefully follow suit, resulting in a single-use plastic free earth. 


The U.K. government are able to make this change, they should phase out single-use plastics in a process so that the change is not too drastic or sudden. Manufacturers of plastic products should switch to glass, stainless steel, wax packaging, recyclable materials or compostable materials. Multi layer packaging should be banned as soon as possible; any reduction in single-use plastic is positive. If consumers stop buying, then businesses will be obliged to adjust their products to suit customer preferences, therefore resulting in a massive decline in plastic production.
