Local animal control plays a crucial role in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of animals—and by extension, consumers—in our community. Unfortunately, the current level of awareness and responsiveness of our animal control officers is not up to par. This results in prolonged response times to incidents, missed opportunities to rescue abused or endangered animals, and a lack of effective animal population control. This reality deeply affects animals and their human companions alike.

A study from Stanford University highlights the direct correlation between the efficiency of animal control services and the general public health score of a community. Poor animal control services often contribute to a higher number of zoonotic diseases, pose potential threats to public safety, and detrimentally impact our environment.

In order to preserve our community's safety and to advocate for the unconditional rights of animals, we must urge our local government to increase the awareness and response of our animal control officers. This could be achieved by investing in comprehensive training programs, adopting state-of-art technologies for incident response, and increasing the general budget dedicated to animal control.
