Fire superintendent Mark Ficken for role in Obama clown stunt
Fire superintendent Mark Ficken for role in Obama clown stunt
The Issue
On the night of August 10, a rodeo clown wearing dressed as President Obama ran into the stadium during the bullriding segment at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia, Missouri. The announcer asked if the audience wanted to see the president run down by a bull. He asked several times, and the cheers grew louder each time. Another clown came out and bobbled the lips of the Obama clown's mask, drawing another ovation. Finally, a bull came so close to the Obama clown that the Obama clown was forced to move out of the way. At least one observer likened the atmosphere for this stunt to a Ku Klux Klan rally.
It has since been confirmed by multiple media outlets that the announcer for this event was Mark Ficken, the superintendent of the Boonville R1 School District. Ficken is also the president of the Missouri Cowboys Rodeo Association.
Regardless of what one may feel about the president and his policies, even joking about doing harm to the president is completely unacceptable. It goes without saying that anyone who participates in such a stunt is not an appropriate role model for our children, and is not a good representative for the Boonville R1 School District. Mark Ficken must be fired immediately.
